In love with dining out – Madrid
Vilalua is a “pulpería”, a traditional Galician restaurant specialized in octopus, “a la gallega”, it means boiled with paprika and cachelos (boiled potatoes), its inseparable side dish. Pulpo is Vilalúas core, cooked just its fair time, brought from Galicia everyday.
The menu is very very short, but you also can (and must) order other typical dishes as: Empanada (meat or seafood pie) or Carne richada (meatloaf), every recipe and ingredient is from Galicia, even the burger, they call it “Galiburger”, its made with Galician beef, Galician bread and Arzua cheese, really delicious, first class ingredients, indescribable.
They will offer you seafood of the day, last time they had Mussels, Galicia style cooked, boiled, fresh and tasty.
I’m so lucky, because it’s not in the typical circuit of restaurants, but it’s so near to my place that I can go with Juan and my neighbors-friends (also lucky to have them nearby). We usually go there to have some pulpo and white wine, Galician too, Albariño, a jug to share and several cuncas (the typical Galician glass for the wine).
I love to finish dinner with some Galician cheese with quince.
The place is not very big, has a bar, two or three high tables with stools and two large communal tables to share. The decor is beautiful, all wood, modern but cozy. There are two places in Madrid, and one in País Vasco. It’s no necessary to make a reservation.
You can have a great dinner for 20€.
